EUSA ID: First cohort started and second call for applications

Britta Niklas provides details of the start of the first cohort of the mobilities granted and the second call for applications.

eusa id-logoDuring the selection meeting at UWC/Cape Town on 8th May, the selection committee of EUSA_ID selected 15 South African master students, 7 South African PhD students, 5 European PhD students and 2 staff applicants for a mobility within the 1st cohort.
By now, all grantees but one have started with their mobilities.
We were able to allocate the mobilities as planned between the European and South African partner universities.
The first group of students arrived at the Ruhr University of Bochum on 3rd August already in order to take part in a German class before starting with the Master in Development Management (MADM) programme.

EUSA ID Bild1Anele Maqubela, Keneilwe Manganya, Bruce Julies and Banele Njoko - here together with the EUSA_ID coordinators in Bochum, Britta Niklas and Dr. Gabriele Bäcker - will stay for a period of 20 months in order to obtain the full degree (photo: IEE).

South African grantees will stay at the European partner institutions for periods between one to three months (staff) and six months to a full three years (MA and PhD students). European PhD students will be staying at the South African partner universities for a period of up to one or two years. Most of them are already well integrated.

EUSA ID Bild2Marta Montanini (right end), who is staying at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (Port Elizabeth) for example has already taken part in the "Heritage Day" together with some Development Studies team members and shared the heritage with them.

In order to read more about the first impressions and experiences of the EUSA_ID students, please have a look at the contributions of Banele Njoko and Marta Montanini.

The second call for scholarship applications started on 12th November.
Again, South African Master and PhD candidates and staff are invited to apply for a mobility period at one of the European EUSA_ID partner universities, while European PhD candidates are invited to apply for a mobility period at one of the South African partner universities!
The "How to apply" section on the EUSA_ID website provides further information on the mobility scholarships of the second call which are available and also for the different groups of applicants. The link to the online application form is also accessible via these sections of the website.
