SA-GER CDR: News from the South African-German Centre of Development Research

6 new scholarship holders started studying at the SA-GER CDR in January 2015, a new call for scholarship applications has started, the coordinator's baton at the UWC is in new hands and an image movie about the Centre is being shot.

6 New Scholarship Holders at the SA-GER CDR

Out of 243 applicants for the Master and 112 applicants for the PhD Programmes offered at the SA-GER CDR, 4 Master students and 2 PhD students were selected in 2014 to commence their studies in January 2015.
Davison Muchadenyika, who already received his Master's Degree from the Centre, is now working towards his PhD in Public Policy, and Rejoice Mabhena is is working towards her PhD in Development Studies.
For the MA in Development Studies, Maphelo Batyi, Kenechukwu Ibebuako, and Christopher Katete were admitted into the programme. Muriel Adarkwa is working towards a MA in Public Administration.

Welcome at the Centre!

New Call for Scholarships Started

Applicants from Sub-Saharan African countries with an excellent academic record are invited to apply for a DAAD merit scholarship at the South African-German Centre for Development Research.
Scholarships are available for full-time students of the MA in Development Studies, the MA in Public Administration, and the different PhD options at the centre (PhD in Development Studies, PhD in Public Policy and Administration). The deadline for applications is the 31st July 2015. The online application form is available via the "How to apply" sections of the different programmes on the website.
Scholarships include monthly allowances of 650 Euro plus travel allowances for Master candidates and 900 Euro plus travel allowances for PhD candidates. More information about requirements for the application and the application procedure is provided on the website of the SA-GER CDR.

Coordination at the SA-GER CDR at the UWC: The Baton Is in New Hands

conradieIna Conradie (see picture on the left), who has been working as the coordinator for the South African-German Centre for Development Research at UWC,Cape Town, since its opening in 2008, is now leaving the Centre, in order to focus on her research as a post-doc at the UWC.
NkomoShe passed the baton to Grace Nkomo (see picture on the right), an Honours MA student in Development Studies at the ISD. Before, Nkomo has been the director of an NGO that helps children in dealing with and preventing HIV and child abuse.

We wish to thank Ina Conradie very much for the great job she has done over the last 7 years. She has made a great contribution as a committed team member.

Image Movie about the SA-GER CDR

As part of the African Excellence initiative, the DAAD started to shoot image movies about the different Excellence Centres in Sub-Sahara Africa.
From 16th to 19th February Thomas Hezel (producer) and his team visited the South African-German Centre for Development Research at UWC in Cape Town and filmed sequences on the campus as well as in Khayelitsha, where he and the Centre Team observed some of the on-going research projects. We are very much looking forward to receiving the final version of the movie. Here's a peek into the activities:
