MADM: MADM Programme Successfully Re-Accredited until 2021

MADM coordinator Tobias Thürer proudly presents the results of the MADM's recent re-accreditation process.

Since the year 2000, the IEE has offered the MA in Development Management (MADM), a programme that trains development professionals from developing countries, backing up their practical experience with further academic expertise. Since then, the programme was successfully re-accredited twice. Now, the MADM has been re-awarded the status of an accredited MA programme by AQAS e.V., valid until 2021. The re-accreditation committee consisted of two professorial academic members from the field of development management (University of Heidelberg and University of Bayreuth), one representative of the practical development Sector (DEG), and one student representative (University of Applied Sciences of Erfurt). Among further criteria, the committee assessed the general design of the MADM programme, its partnerships with other academic institutions, and the implementation of the programme. In this context, it conducted interviews with staff members, current students, and alumni who currently work in the development sector.
The committee was extremely impressed by the MADM programme, as is evident in its accreditation report. Particularly, the report stresses that "the study programme is strongly application-oriented (...), while also providing a solid academic competence". In this regard, the "internship positions, which are acquired by the highly engaged staff members, provide insights in the professional life and networking opportunities." The report also strongly acknowledges the training of intercultural competences within the programme, which "prepares [students] very well for an international field of work in the development assistance sector". Consequently, an "extremely large share of the graduates works in the development sector or in the developmental context. This (...) underlines the coherent concept of this master programme".
The IEE happily acknowledges this appraisal, which confirms the overall positive feedback we regularly receive from graduates. We look forward to welcoming future students in the coming years.
