IEE Newsletter No. 22

Editorial

At the end of the year 2015, the Ruhr-University Bochum (RUB) looks back on an eventful year - including its 50th anniversary. The IEE, as one of the oldest central academic institutions of the RUB, happily joined in the festivities, looking forward to its own 50th anniversary, which is to be celebrated next year.
That being said, 50 years of existence of the IEE in the coming year is not the only reason to celebrate. Looking back on the activities of the IEE in 2015 alone, we find sufficient grounds to be in a festive mood. Moreover, the 4th PhD Conference in International Development and the Urban Food Plus Summer School represent two major events recently organised by the IEE, both of which brought together students and researchers from across the globe. Beyond that, in the year 2015, the German-Arab Joint PhD programme was launched, our partnership with the International Institute of Social Studies at the Erasmus University Rotterdam deepened, and the cooperation of the IEE and the Institute of Development and Peace (INEF) at the University Duisburg-Essen under the roof of the UA Ruhr Graduate Center for Development Studies bore fruits with the start of an interdisciplinary research project funded by the Mercator Research Center Ruhr (MERCUR). Last, but not least, the Masters programme in Development Management was re-accredited, receiving much appreciation from the accreditation committee. Hence, looking back on the achievements of this fading year serves as encouragement for our upcoming activities in 2016!
Sincerely,
