On 24th and 25th September 2015, the IEE hosted the 4th PhD Conference on International Development. Together with the School of International Development (DEV), University of East Anglia, UK, the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) at Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Hague, NL, and our partners in the UA-Ruhr Graduate Centre, the Institute for Development and Peace (INEF) and the Institute of Political Science (IfP) at University Duisburg-Essen the IEE has initiated the annual PhD Conferences in 2012.
After successful defense of her PhD Thesis on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, Catherine Promise Biira from Gayaza, Uganda has been awarded the degree of a Philosophiae Doctor(Ph.D.).
After successful defense of his PhD Thesis on Friday, July 10, 2015, IEE research fellow Elkhan Richard Zada has been awarded the degree of a Philosophiae Doctor(Ph.D.).
On June 3, 2015, PhD IDS associate member Annalisa Addis from Italy has been awarded the degree of a Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D.) for her thesis on "Linking Huminatarian and Development Action in Ethiopia".

We are very proud of our former MADM student Chifundo Patience Chilera, who has been named one of 26 Africa's Most Outstanding Emerging Women Leaders by the Moremi Initiative for Women Leadership in Africa. As a 2015 Fellow, she will be attending the Moremi Initiative Leadership, Empowerment and Development Institute hosted jointly with the University of Ghana in Accra, Ghana, this July.

The Institute of Development Research and Development Policy and in particular Research Cluster 2 successfully registered to take part in the Habitat III preparatory process of UN Habitat. On behalf of Research Cluster 2, which has a thematic focus on Housing and Urbanization, Mariana Vilmondes and Raffael Beier attended the second session of the Preparatory Committee for Habitat III in Nairobi in April 2015.
