On 10 March 2014, Silas Udahemuka from Rwanda has been awarded the degree of a Doctor (Ph.D.) in International Development Studies (IDS). He received a DAAD-funded scholarship of the South African-German Centre for Development Research for his doctoral studies.
The members of Research Cluster 3 organized a three-days methodological workshop on Econometrics which was opened for interested researchers from all clusters. The workshop took place from March 24 to March 26. Instructor of the workshop was Sebastian Beil from the Ruhr-University Bochum.
On May 28, 2014 the members of Cluster 1 and other interested IEE members met for a workshop on "The Comparative Method" hosted by Dr. Meik Nowak. The workshop provided an overview of comparative approaches in research and gave the participants insights into how they could use different kinds of comparison to structure their research. Further interdisciplinary workshops on methodological issues are planned for this year.
The new EUSA_ID project is a mobility programme offering study, training and research periods in Europe for South African Master and PhD candidates and staff and provides European PhD candidates the opportunity to spend a research period in South Africa.
