On Monday, 20 April 2015, our students had the chance to meet the former president of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai. He was invited to Bochum for the discussion forum ‘Challenges in Afghanistan, Situation at the Hindu Kush, Global Terrorism and the Role of Germany in the World’.
Congratulations to 24 Afghan lecturers – the largest group yet – from the Universities of Nangarhar, Herat, Faryab, Samangan, Bamyan, Khost, Kunduz, Paktia, Kandahar and Kabul who completed the Bachelor Upgrading Programme in Management and Economics at RUB. On 6 March 2015 they received the certificates.
Finally, on 24 March 2014, after some delay the IEE was very happy to welcome a new group of 24 participants – the largest group yet – in the Bachelor Upgrading Programme in Management and Economics at Ruhr Universität Bochum. The Bachelor Upgrading Programme at RUB started in 2004 and since then, the IEE has hosted about one hundred lecturers from thirteen different universities all over Afghanistan. The programme, funded by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) aims to improve the standards of teaching in Afghanistan by providing training and teaching economics to young lecturers.
After three intense semesters of studying at the RUB and four months of field research in Afghanistan, on 27 September 2013, twenty-eight Afghan lecturers from the Universities of Balkh, Herat, Kabul, Kandahar, Khost and Nangarhar earned their Master degree in Management and Economics.
My name is Kawoon Azizi. I am assistant lecturer at the Economics Faculty of Nangarhar University (Afghanistan). Since 2011, I am also a student in the MSc in Management and Economics program at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB). Currently, I am conducting the field research for my Master thesis in Afghanistan, which is a compulsory part of my studies at RUB.

With lots of luggage and happy faces, the 30 Afghan Master students in the MSc in Management and Economics program at RUB just left for four months of field research in their home country.
On 15 November 2012, the Afghan Minister of Higher Education, HE Prof. Dr. Obaidullah Obaid, visited the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB). The Minister informed himself about the state of the on-going cooperation programmes between the RUB and Afghan Faculties of Management and Economics, as well as between the University Duisburg-Essen (UDE), RUB and the University of Kabul in the field of German studies and German language training.
Afghan lecturers from Balkh, Herat, Kabul, Kandahar, Khost and Nangarhar, who are currently studying in the MSc in Management and Economics programme at RUB, recently visited Wolfsburg and Berlin during an official three-day excursion. The programme was jointly organized by the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the IEE.
