Afghan lecturers from Balkh, Herat, Kabul, Kandahar, Khost and Nangarhar, who are currently studying in the MSc in Management and Economics programme at RUB, recently visited Wolfsburg and Berlin during an official three-day excursion. The programme was jointly organized by the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the IEE.
In Wolfsburg, the students were welcomed by the Counselor of the Afghan Embassy, Mr Abed Nadjib, and had a chance to visit the Volkswagen car assembly plant and the "Autostadt" theme park of the VW Group. In Berlin, the group was warmly received by His Excellency the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman Ashraf. On that occasion, His Excellency the Ambassador of the Principality of Liechtenstein, Prinz Stefan von und zu Liechtenstein, was also present.
HE Ambassador Ashraf also accompanied the students to the German Foreign Office, where they met with Mrs Irmgard Maria Fellner, Head of Section for Cultural and Media Affairs, and learned more about German Foreign Policy and the work of German diplomats abroad. The students also took the opportunity to engage in a lively discussion on German-Afghan relations with Dr. Christian Buck, Deputy Head of the Task Force Afghanistan/Pakistan of the German Foreign Office. At both receptions, the Afghan RUB students met with the 24 Afghan Master students who are currently studying in the DAAD-supported IT program at the Technische Universität (TU) Berlin. The official programme concluded with a guided tour of the German Bundestag, during which the students were able to gain insights into democratic processes and law-making in Germany.
