On 15 November 2012, the Afghan Minister of Higher Education, HE Prof. Dr. Obaidullah Obaid, visited the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB). The Minister informed himself about the state of the on-going cooperation programmes between the RUB and Afghan Faculties of Management and Economics, as well as between the University Duisburg-Essen (UDE), RUB and the University of Kabul in the field of German studies and German language training.

During a function at the RUB, the Minister and his delegation also met with the 30 Afghan lecturers from the Universities of Balkh, Herat, Kabul, Kandahar, Khost and Nangarhar, who are currently studying in the MSc in Management and Economics Programme at RUB. The cooperation between RUB/UDE and the Afghan Universities is supported by DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) who also organized the Minister's visit of several German universities who are cooperating with Afghan partner universities.
