On Monday, 20 April 2015, our students had the chance to meet the former president of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai. He was invited to Bochum for the discussion forum ‘Challenges in Afghanistan, Situation at the Hindu Kush, Global Terrorism and the Role of Germany in the World’.
Before the official opening of the event Mr. Karzai invited our students to an informal meeting.
Afterwards, the huge event was introduced by former Federal Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development Dirk Niebel. Karzai’s counterpart in the discussion was Germany’s former president Christian Wulff.
Both emphasized the progress Afghanistan made towards a stable government during the last ten years, but they also reflected on the undermining challenges. In this context, they highlighted the long-lasting and fruitful relationship between Afghanistan and Germany.
