PhD Student Organizes Panel at Next International Studies Conference in Montreal

IEE's PhD student Jan-Frederik Kremer and Maximilian Mayer, research fellow at the Center for Global Studies, University of Bonn, successfully passed the review-process for the next yearly conference of the International Studies Association (ISA) with their panel proposal and paper contributions. Together they will chair the panel "Global Power Shift: Theoretical Perspectives and Approaches" at the most renowned conference for international politics and international relations in the U.S. and Canada. The panel will contain paper presentations from high ranking scholars coming from China, Turkey, the U.S., and Germany.

The panel's aim is to foster the knowledge of how students of global power shift and the rise of 'emerging powers' can benefit from existing IR theories and to foster the discussion of which alternative aspects and concepts may be adequate for the analysis of 21st century power relations? The panel will discuss different methodological and conceptual approaches for inquiring and measuring global power shifts - thereby pointing to possible future empirical and theoretical research paths.

As head-discussant they were able to attain Beverly Crawford, University of California Berkeley, Associate Director of the Institute of European Studies.
