Congratulations Dr. Hussain and Dr. Shaikh!

The IEE compliments Dr. Shafaq Hussain and Dr. Naveed Ahmed Shaikh, who successfully defended their PhD theses on Wednesday, 27 July 2011. They are the first graduates of the International Development Studies Doctoral Programme.

Dr. Hussain wrote her thesis on "The Growth Effects and Determinants of Female Employment in Pakistan: A Macro- and Microeconomic Analysis". Dr. Shaik's thesis is entitled "Trade Liberalization, Welfare and Poverty in Pakistan". Both PhD theses were supervised by Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Loewenstein. The second supervisors were Prof. Dr. Ilse Lenz (Shafaq Hussain) and Prof. Dr. Dieter Bender (Naveed Ahmed Shaikh).
