Britta Niklas attended annual conferences of the European and American Association of Wine Economists

Britta Niklas took part in the 3rd annual conference of the European Association of Wine Economists (EuAWE) from 11-14 June at the University of Salento, in Lecce, Italy. She presented together with an international colleague from the INSEEC School of Business and Economics, Bordeaux, France on “Adapting wine pricing strategies and policies to wine categories and countries: insights from price and income elasticities”. The presentation was part of the panel on the wine market and deals with new pricing strategies for both, high quality fine wines and lower quality wines in France and Spain, taking different reactions of consumers (caused by price changes) for distinct wine categories in different regional markets into account. For estimating these demand reactions, not only mean price and income elasticities are estimated, but also expenditure elasticities to capture non linearity and to identify abnormal consumer behavior (Giffen and Veblen effects). The abstract will be published in the “Book of abstracts” soon.

From 1 - 5 July, 2024, Britta Niklas also attended the 16th annual conference of the American Association of Wine Economists (AAWE) which took place at the EHL Hospitality Business School in Lausanne, Switzerland (see image above). Britta presented together with two international colleagues, one from Bordeaux Sciences Agro, France, and from the University of Applied Science of Burgenland, Austria, on “A segmentation of French sustainable wine consumers”. The presentation was part of the panel on “Sustainability” and deals with the clustering of characteristics of wine consumers of different certified wine labels, such as biodynamic, organic, natural, sustainable or Fairtrade. The abstract will be published on the AAWE website soon.
