South African-German Centre for Development Research
In 2008 the IEE together with its partner institutions at UWC, the Institute for Social Development (ISD) and the School of Government (SoG) established the the South African-German Centre for Development Research (CDR) as a platform for cooperative study programmes and research. The MA in Development Studies, the Master in Public Administration, the MA in Development Management (until 2023) and PhD options in Development Studies and Public Administration form part of the centre. Until the end of 2023, CDR has been supported by DAAD as part of the African Excellence Programme which has been funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.
With the establishment of Centres of Excellence at leading African universities, the DAAD aims at creating modern educational capacities with supraregional influence. Improving the educational quality and expanding the research capacity at these world-class hubs has the goal to enable the next generation of leaders to acquire a training in line with international standards.
Within the framework of cooperating in Masters and PhD programmes, the aim of the African Excellence Centre at UWC in Cape Town is to prepare the next generation of leaders to meet the typical economic, social and political challenges arising from the development process.
The course offerings are sourced from the disciplines of economics, social sciences, public policy and administrative sciences.
