Call for Abstracts
The 7th PhD Conference on International Development is organized by students of the Institute of Development Research and Development Policy (IEE), Ruhr-University Bochum (RUB). This international student-led event is part of the IEEs cooperation with the School of International Development (DEV), University of East Anglia, UK; Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex, UK; International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), Erasmus University of Rotterdam, NL; and the Institute for Development and Peace (INEF), as well as the Institute of Political Science (IfP), both at the University Duisburg-Essen.
We invite current or recently-graduated PhD students in development studies with various disciplinary backgrounds for poster or paper presentations on the following sub-themes:
- Alternative Development Discourses and Responses from Below,
- Labor and Business Ethics in Developing Economies,
- Resource Extraction and Community Development,
- Migration & Development,
- Innovative Research Methods in the Development Context,
- Food Security & Food Safety.
PhD students will have the opportunity to present their doctoral research projects (or parts thereof), or related research to a larger audience to get a critical and well-informed feedback. The conference will offer an international platform to exchange with fellow students, senior academics, and experts.
500-word abstracts including the methodological and theoretical approach, the preferred sub-theme, full name, institutional affiliation, as well as contact details should be submitted to
The conference will include keynote lectures, parallel sessions, a guided poster walk, and a conference dinner. The organizers will provide lunch and refreshments. Moreover, there may be limited funding available for transportation and accommodation provided by the RUB Research School Plus.
