Short Profile

Laura is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Development Research and Development Policy.
Entitled "Cultural Heritage Protection through the Lens of Human Rights Bodies", her research asks if and how international human rights law can offer a legal basis for the protection of cultural heritage. To this end, it reviews the pronouncements and work of human rights bodies, specifically the Human Rights Council, the Human Rights Committee and the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. Organised along the threefold structure of 'meaning', 'rights', and 'obligations', her PhD examines the meaning of cultural heritage, the relevant rights of individuals and groups, and the corresponding state obligations vis-à-vis cultural heritage.
From 2015 to 2020, Laura worked as a research associate at Ruhr University Bochum‘s IFHV. Laura holds a BA in Liberal Arts and Sciences from University College Maastricht and an LLM in International Laws from Maastricht University.
