Markus is Professor of Public Law at the Faculty of Law and Director of the Institute of Development Research and Development Policy (IEE), Ruhr-University Bochum. His main areas of research are health law, the law of development cooperation, human rights law and social protection law in low- and middle-income countries. Currently he is project leader of the research project “Rights-based health protection” (financed by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG). Moreover, Markus Kaltenborn is distinguished fellow of the International Council on Social Welfare (ICSW), member of the board of supervisors of Oxfam Germany e.V., member of the German Institute for Human Rights (DIMR e.V.) and member of the Global Coalition for Social Protection Floors.
