On the eve of the Alumni-Conference "Doing Good with Business? Corporate Social Responsibility, Social Entrepreneurship, and Fair Trade" the IEE celebrated its 50th anniversary. IEE Alumni, starting from the founding generation, current institute members, students and partners met for an event which included a keynote speech of Prof. Christof Hartmann on Perspectives of Democracy in the Global South as well as a review of the institute’s activities over the last 50 years.


Alumni of IEE’s MA in Development Management programme will spent the rest of the week together with MA DM students and Alumni and students of partner programmes from the University Duisburg-Essen, the University Leipzig and the HTW Berlin to discuss diverse facets of "Corporate Social Responsibility" among each other and with invited experts.

As part of the conference, the 6th Development Day of the UA Ruhr Graduate Centre for Development Studies will take place on Thursday, 10th November. Under the umbrella of the centre the IEE, the Institute for Development and Peace (INEF), and the Institute for Political Science (IfP) of the University of Duisburg-Essen cooperate in teaching and research since 2011. A major topic of this years’ Development Day will be a joint research project on "Actors, Roles & Practices of Transnational Regulation of Labour Standards", which is funded by the Mercator Research Center Ruhr (MERCUR).
