In cooperation with the Gustav-Stresemann-Institut (GSI) and the Arnold-Bergstrasser-Institut (ABI) of the University of Freiburg, students from the Master of Arts in Development Management (MADM) took part in an excursion to Bonn from 23 to 27 June, 2025. Both MADM students from Bochum and students from Freiburg University visited several institutions of development research and practice in Bonn, discussed challenges and perspectives of development cooperation in the 21st century and took part in a simulation game.

Among the development partners involved in the excursion programme were the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS), Deutsches Evaluierungsinstitut der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit (DEval), Global Policy Forum, Don Bosco Mission Bonn and Südwind Institut. The discussions with the involved institutions allowed for refletions on the current political climate for development cooperation, challenges related to measurement of development effectiveness and potential perspectives for transformative change.

A simulation game organised by Planpolitik introduced the students to the setting of multilateral negotiations involving different stakeholders such as government or civil society representatives. The overall excursion programme has received financial support by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
