Ruhr-University Bochum's science magazin "RUBIN" is published twice a year granting insights into research projects around the university in a way easy to understand. In a recently published article, IEE's Senior Research Fellow Elkhan Sadik-Zada shares insights from his research on the sustainability of solar power supply in different world regions.
Elkhan reports how rural areas and remote villages in Cambodia, Sierra Leone, Uganda, the Pamir Mountains of Central Asia, and former war zones in northern Syria are being equipped with solar systens. By supporting such measures, international development cooperation makes a difference in the lives of people who live in remote villages suffering from poverty and/or the consequences of conflict. For example by facilitating the modernization of traditional agricultural technologies, contributing to gender equality or CO2 reductions in daily life.
The full article will be published in the forthcoming December edition of the RUBIN magazine but can already be found here: https://news.rub.de/english/2025-09-22-development-research-people-are-just-happier.
