After successful defense of his PhD thesis on Wednesday, 17th July 2013, Abate Mekuriaw Bizuneh from Ethiopia has been awarded the degree of a Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D.).

After successful defense of her PhD thesis on Friday, 21st June 2013, Martina Lembani from Malawi has been awarded the degree of a Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D.).

After successful defense of his PhD thesis on Monday, 28th January 2013, Beneberu Assefa Wondimagegnhu from Ethiopia has been awarded the degree of a Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D.).

Silas Udahemuka, participant of the PhD in International Development Studies and scholarship holder of the Development Research Division of the South African - German Centre for Development Research and Criminal Justice, has been selected as a new member of the African Good Governance Network (AGGN).

After successful defense of his PhD thesis on Tuesday, 17th January 2012, Elias Gebreselassie Fanta from Ethiopia has been awarded the degree of a Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D.) He is the fourth graduate of the International Development Studies Doctoral Programme and at the same time the second scholarship holder of the Development Research Division of the South African-German Centre for Development Research and Criminal Justice who completed his PhD.

The IEE compliments Dr. Charlton Tsodzo, who successfully defended his PhD thesis on Tuesday, 20th December 2011. He is the first graduate of the International Development Studies Doctoral Programme of the South African-German Centre for Development Research and Criminal Justice!

The IEE compliments Dr. Shafaq Hussain and Dr. Naveed Ahmed Shaikh, who successfully defended their PhD theses on Wednesday, 27 July 2011. They are the first graduates of the International Development Studies Doctoral Programme.

IEE's PhD student Jan-Frederik Kremer and Maximilian Mayer, research fellow at the Center for Global Studies, University of Bonn, successfully passed the review-process for the next yearly conference of the International Studies Association (ISA) with their panel proposal and paper contributions. Together they will chair the panel "Global Power Shift: Theoretical Perspectives and Approaches" at the most renowned conference for international politics and international relations in the U.S. and Canada. The panel will contain paper presentations from high ranking scholars coming from China, Turkey, the U.S., and Germany.

The DAAD will provide support for further internationalization of doctoral studies at the Institute of Development Research and Development Policy, Ruhr-University Bochum. The funds are made available by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
