The Graduate Centre has been renamed and presents itself on a re-designed website.

The collaboration project between the Institute of Development Research and Development Policy (IEE), Ruhr-University of Bochum, the Institute of Political Sciences (IfP), the University of Duisburg-Essen and the Institute for Development and Peace (INEF), University of Duisburg-Essen, formerly known as UAMR Graduate Centre for Development Studies has been renamed UA Ruhr Graduate Centre for Development Studies. This change had to happen due to the renaming of its umbrella institution: the Universitäts-Allianz Metropole Ruhr (UAMR) is now called UA Ruhr.
At the same time, the UA Ruhr Graduate Centre has begun to shine with a new gleam thanks to the complete relaunch of its website. The Centre's web presence appears with a new layout and a newly-created logo which from now on will be displayed on the covers of the two publication series of the Graduate Centre: the Working Papers series "Working Papers on Development and Global Governance", and the monograph series "UA Ruhr Studies on Development and Global Governance" published by Logos, Berlin. The presentation of the three cooperating institutions and the overview of the five different study programmes that form part of the Centre's educational activities have been overhauled with some minor updates being made. More extensive updates have been made with regard to the different research projects pursued by the participating institutions of the Centre. The key themes and topics are covered in six research areas:

• Area 1: Development Policies in Fragile Environments
• Area 2: Domestic Political Contexts in Developing Countries/Area Studies
• Area 3: Private Sector, Development and Global Health
• Area 4: Regional Integration, Globalisation, Governance
• Area 5: Effectiveness of Developmental Interventions
• Area 6: Resource Use and Distribution

Furthermore, the relaunched website now also presents the Development Days and the PhD Conferences as the two major events that the Centre organises or is involved in. And last but not least, the new website offers an updated list of all the researchers working under the roof of the UA Ruhr Graduate Centre.

UA Ruhr joint activities

The joint activities in the field of education in development studies at the PhD level include

• a Seminar on „Institutional Analysis in Political Sciences" by Prof. Hartmann offered in the PhD IDS this September,
• a PhD workshop on "Qualitative Research Methods" by Prof. Debiel on November 6th and 7th at the Duisburg campus, which is organised for PhD students from all three UA Ruhr GC institutions.

Moreover, at the Master level, the following courses are available for all Master students of the three cooperating institutions in this Winter Term:

• "Economic Tutorial" taught by Gabriele Bäcker at the IEE,
• "Theories of Development and Underdevelopment: Economic Perspectives" taught by Wilhelm Löwenstein at the IEE,
• "Democracy and Governance" offered by Prof. Faust in Duisburg.
